Maine’s 2013 Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor of the Year!

  Maine Dairy and Nutrition Council and Hichborn Middle School Salute Maine’s 2013 Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor of the Year!    Barbara Hamlin and Hichborn Middle School recognized for commitment to school wellness   Augusta, ME, April 5, 2013 – Barbara Hamlin, Physical Education Teacher at Hichborn Middle School in Howland, Maine has been named Maine’s Fuel Up To Play 60 Program Advisor of the Year! Barb is part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program, taking an active leadership role in encouraging students to get active, eat healthy and make a difference. Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program developed by the National Dairy Council, Maine Dairy and Nutrition Council, and the National Football League (NFL), in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Nearly 73,000 schools are involved in Fuel Up to Play 60 nationwide. Through the efforts of Program Advisors like Hamlin, schools across the country are encouraging youth to consume nutrient-dense foods (low-fat and fat-free milk and milk products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. “We’re excited to recognize Barb’s leadership. She has been a true wellness champion for her school and the Fuel Up To Play 60 program,” says Cheryl Beyeler, Executive Director, Maine Dairy and Nutrition Council. According to Carol Marcinkus, Hichborn Middle School Principal, “Mrs. Hamlin’s goals are always to keep students engaged in being healthy. Fuel Up To Play 60 has been the perfect program to help her meet those goals.  She’s involved the whole school in the program.” In addition to engaging and empowering students to get involved in Fuel Up to Play 60, Program Advisors help their schools and students earn recognition, rewards and funding to support wellness initiatives in their schools.
